JH fourth graders have been learning about the 6 Traits of Writing in order to become better writers. We have already learned about the Ideas trait. To practice the Ideas Trait students drew a character card and problem card from a baggie. Students worked as a group to make connections between the two cards. They were assigned to write a story similar to A Bad Case of Stripes, which was read aloud to them to introduce the Ideas trait. Group stories to follow........

One day Brock Ellie to his barn to get his horse to ride him into town for lunch. When he got to the restaurant he ordered liver with broccoli but when they brought it out it was just liver and didn't have broccoli because they didn't have any more broccoli. He was so hungry he ate the liver. When Brock got back on the horse they started going home and the horse bucked him off because he stepped on a thorn. So then the horse ran home and Brock had to walk home. Then when he got home his wife asked if he was okay. The next day he went out to feed his horse and he was afraid of him. Then he went back to the restaurant to get lunch and ordered cake for his son's birthday. When it was time to eat cake for his son's birthday when he took a bite of the cake he threw up because it tasted like liver. Then he went back out to feed his horse the horse was talking to the chef because the chef was being nice enough to feed him apples. So then the cowboy went over to pet his horse and feed him apples. So then the horse told the cowboy why he bucked and they apologized to each other and the chef gave everybody free liver WITH broccoli and they all lived happily ever after The End.
